Jay Brandrup


Since 1995, Jay has been leading the technology curve here in Birmingham as founder and principal of Kinetic. Under his guiding hand, Kinetic has been molded into a company that focuses on bringing the energy of new technologies to traditional business models.

Responsible for company-wide resource management, Jay encourages all team members to contribute to the way Kinetic functions. His mantra for management? “Speak frankly and carry a fun attitude.” Folks get a kick out of working at Kinetic, and the company has remained strong.

Jay currently serves on the Board of Directors for Lakeshore Foundation, Ed Farm, United Way of Central Alabama, TechBirmingham, TechAlabama, and UCP of Alabama. He also currently serves on Oakworth Capital’s Advisory Board, Auburn’s Harbert College of Business Advisory Board, and UAB’s IS Advisory Board. Jay has also served on the Board of Directors for REV Birmingham, Birmingham Regional Enterprise Council, United Ability, Magic City Art Connection, and Birmingham Children’s Theatre.

Jay was selected as one of Birmingham’s “Top 40 Under 40” in 2002 after being nominated by business peers for this 18th annual class of Birmingham’s young business leaders. He was also selected for Children’s Hospital’s 2010 Committee for the Future. Jay also stays involved with the Birmingham Business Alliance’s Entrepreneur’s Roundtable Program, and the Birmingham Venture Club. Jay is also a mentor for the TechStars Alabama and Velocity Accelerator programs.

Jay is an honors graduate of Auburn University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Finance and was inducted into Spades honorary as one of the top ten seniors. Jay currently serves on the Harbert College of Business Advisory Board and has served on the board for the Greater Birmingham Auburn Club. He’s also been a guest speaker at Finance Day and a Visiting Executive-in-Residence.
